CSC 104 Blog 2: Electric SLOG

The 22nd to the 27th has always been an interesting period of time for me. The 22nd is my mother's birthday and the 27th is my older brother's, yet the past few years haven't been about celebration. The end of October seems to be the period when school begins to heat up, with the early days in September well in the rear view. So I was hardly surprised that things were the same in university. Yet the period has been less work-intensive and more just tense. I've spent most of it waiting to hear back on three of my four midterms, and it's made it hard to focus on really anything else. Which is why I decided that I couldn't write this SLOG without knowing what my grades in the course were. The knowledge was imperative to  vocalizing my thoughts on my progress.

I got an 84%. I've tried very hard to not be disappointed by the score, but I'm just not managing it. Every week I dedicate hours to reading through the very helpful textbook and practising with the exercises on the course website. This is generally enough to do well on the quizzes, but for the test, I knew I would have to do more. So I did. I did all the past mid terms on the site, then I proceeded to do the exercises in the textbook. While I don't have any images I'm particularly proud of, I do feel like I've gained a greater understanding of concepts I was confused about, such as the check-expect and the conditional function, through careful studying with the textbook. I checked the grading and it seems I actually did quite well in terms of marking; I guess that's the downside of a short test with few questions.

I won't let the disappointment discourage me. There's a new project due next week. I've kinda started on it, but every time I open the racket file it feels like I got hit by a wall of indiscernible text. I still haven't read all the way through. Hopefully I can finish it over the weekend. The course is fine and I'm doing well, I just feel as if I should be doing better. So I will continue to try to do exactly that.
